They actually deflect the incoming missile by layering explosives around the occupant section of the tank. Their supposed to take a hit and keep on moving without any damage save for scorch marks.

However, I don't know of any vehicle that could take the impact of a semi (loaded or unloaded) without taking any or little damage. If you want to survive an impact with a Semi-Truck then buy a Tank. The M1A1 or newer would be the best. With their hi-tech suspension systems, you probably won't feel the impact.
