What is better off-road hummer h1 or a land rover Defender?

and also what one have mover pulling power better Reliability, Quality,SafetyWhat is better off-road hummer h1 or a land rover Defender? It depends on what you plan on doing with them.

Land Rover:

Better aerodynamics

Better MPG

Gas engine unfortunately

Will drive much faster and smother on the high way

Much more reliable

H1 Hummer:

Can ford up to 3 feet of water

over sized wheels, suspension which is good when your hitting them rocks hard

Slow and noisy on the highway

great for slow crawling over anything.

15 MPG - but that doesn't matter and if it does get lost

Much higher toque from the gear reduction in the hubs - You'll shred the tires before it stops moving

Aluminum body(Takes much longer to rust), steal doors and roof.

You will be working on an H1 a lot.

I am a H1 hummer fan and will own one someday. I have a lot of friends that own H1 hummers and most of them wouldn't get rid of it for anything else. They are also very noisy but for us truck guys we love it. Not to be against land rovers but there for the roads. If you want something for off-roading get a hummer. You will have trouble going through pre-made trials because there narrow but the hummer don't do trials, it makes it's own. What is better off-road hummer h1 or a land rover Defender?
It really depends on where you're going off-road. The Defender, if you fix the Lucas electronics problems, will be FAR superior, and in most cases it still is. But the H1 has a reliability advantage that you can take it anywhere and not worry about breaking down...just getting stuck. Fortunately, the H1 is big enough that, in open areas like deserts and such, you can get around fine. In tight trails, however, the H1 would get wedged between rocks and trees or high center due to its long wheelbase. Conversely, the Defender doesn't have the power to get through swamps and thick mud, but its narrow body and short wheelbase make it great for mountain trails through trees and such. To throw a third option in, the Jeep family. The XJ (Cherokee), TJ (Wrangler), WJ/ZJ (Grand Cherokee) all are capable off-road. Of the three, the XJ is the most utilitarian, with no luxuries, much like the H1 and Defender, is almost as capable on tight trails as the Defender, and more powerful for the sticky situations like the H1. If you go up another level with the Grand Cherokee, you get the extra power with a V8 version, the fantastic 4 wheel coil suspension of the TJ Jeep which allows for good articulation, and it's still a small enough package for mucking through the woods. Plus, they are far more reliable than either the H1 or, especially, the Defender. What is better off-road hummer h1 or a land rover Defender?never driven a Hummer but have driven a defender off Road on an off road course so am aware of its capabilities. also been to land Rovers site where you can drive through a river ( sort of) etc and have vehicle go to its extreme angles of climb, descent , banking etc.

Am also aware of Hummers very good capabilities as a rough terrain vehicle having good power and well armoured.

I would best say, Hummer is going to keep you better protected and more comfortable over most terrains it encounters.

Defender is more nimble though and climb and reduced Weight give it advantages so overall it can be seem as more usable. if we take into account fuel, breakdowns , servicing , parts availability etc we can see why the Defender is choice of so many armed forces and farmers etc world over . Hummer has been rumoured to have gone bankrupt and is being remodelled to try and ensure further life expectancy but essential ly it is coming to an end.

bottom line = Defender rules.( off road as well as on)
There ia a third alternative and that is of course japanese.

so we have the big american used in the desert and the toyota land cruiser also used in the desert.

then we have the land rover which breaks down.

then we have the mud plugging in the english country side i would agree the hummer may be a bit wide for this.

the toyota land cruiser will do all the defender does and not breakdown in a big puddle or up a steep bank.

so we have also the comfort in a toyota land cruiser which is what you get.

then the toyota land cruiser has a deeper wading depth and does not fill with water.

but given this obvious problem the hummer would probably be a better option.

as the toyota would float maybe but even the 3 litre version weighs 3 and 1/2 ton.

which is somewhat heavier than a land rover.

so the score so far is Hummer if you want a go anywhere but at a cost of width and reliability but basic.

the land rover poor reliability and get your feet wet and not a lot of use in the desert because it broke down.

Or a toyota land cruiser used in the deserts and the outback as Ray Mears did when the new discovery packed up on him after the first week of filming.

and had to get an Old Toyota Land Cruiser.

and even our wild life camera person Simon King when he took his family with him from here in somerset found the land rover unreliable in Scotland during the winter moths and had to use yes you guessed it a TOYOTA Land Cruiser. What is better off-road hummer h1 or a land rover Defender? The Land Rover, without question. The Hummer is far too big %26amp; heavy. For this reason, the Land Rover isn't that good off road either, and something like a Suzuki SJ or Vitara will get places that the Defender can't on nine out of ten occasions. The Defender drivetrain has a lockable centre diff, but both front %26amp; rear diffs are open. Get two wheels on one side of any LR in a ditch %26amp; you're stuck.

I have no idea about the reliability of the Hummer, but I would guess that build quality isn't great. The Defender definitely has very poor build quality %26amp; reliability - I've spent around 30 years working on Land Rover stuff, and it's all seriously over rated %26amp; reliability is awful; I live in a predominantly farming area %26amp; when Subaru launched their 4wd pick up in the 80s, sales of Land Rovers virtually stopped overnight. Most people have stuck with the Japanese stuff to this day, the only people who buy a Defender or Discovery do so because they're rated to tow 3.5 tonnes rather than the 3 tonne limit of the lighter Jap stuff.

Safety wise, they're both awful, but the Hummer needs no safety testing in the US so it's a complete unknown. Don't assume that it's huge size %26amp; weight mean that it's safe - to be safe, a car needs to deform in an impact %26amp; the body needs to absorb the energy of a crash. A huge car built very solidly won't do this %26amp; more energy will be transferred to the occupants, resulting in injury.

My advice? Get a 15 year old Nissan Terrano diesel SWB for 拢500 - it'll get anywhere a Defender can %26amp; won't break down. What is better off-road hummer h1 or a land rover Defender?
Defender is way better off road, the hummer is too big. Defender is probably less reliable, but much easier to repair. Safety the hummer is better, but if you aren't arnold swarzenegger (or however you spell it) everyone looks like a total idiot in a hummer but Defenders are one of the coolest vehicles ever made. I wish i had one.
Most trails are very narrow with tight turns, you need a narrow short wheelbase vehicle like the original Jeep and the Defender. If you off road, you will get stuck, so a large vehicle like the H1 will be that much more difficult to get out. My choice would be the Defender. What is better off-road hummer h1 or a land rover Defender?
They're not even on the same planet!

A L-R is one of the most capable off road machines you can buy. The Hummer is a stupid American toy for wannabe ganstas and footballer's wives.
Landrover defender
