Your question may be phrased more accurately if reversed. The amount of environmental damage caused and the energy consumed to produce the Prius, outweigh the Hummer. A tremendous amount of energy is consumed producing and shipping the batteries, not to mention the environmental damage from the mining operations needed to make them in the first place.
